Achievekids reduces behavior problems by empowering students to communicate more effectively. Speech therapists work with students in a variety of settings to help them effectively communicate. This work ultimately precludes behavioral outbursts associated with frustration surrounding communication.

What type of speech therapy is available?

Speech and language therapy is provided to our students in our non-public school. We provide individual, group and consultation services to the teacher, staff and family. We will also accompany the child in the community to facilitate the use and generalization of their communication program in community based environments. The emphasis of the therapy is to increase the child’s ability to communicate, through the use of sign language, icons, verbal speech, or voice output devices. Each student’s communication system is individualized. We believe behavior is a form of communication, even if the behavior is inappropriate. For this reason, we believe an individualized effective communication system is key to increasing positive behavior and social functioning. For students who are more academically oriented, we focus on improving their critical thinking abilities, such as problem solving skills, so that they may have more effective social communication skills.
