Achievekids teaches youth with complex emotional and developmental disabilities the skills and knowledge necessary to achieve greater independence. Expert staff, supported by the community, provide programs for our students and families that are positive, individualized, and multi-disciplinary.

Achievekids has been serving Santa Clara and San Mateo counties for more than 45 years by providing programs and services for children and youth who have difficult emotional and developmental disorders that cannot be properly addressed in a traditional academic setting. To meet this need, intensive individualized programs have been developed specifically to address the issues presented by a variety of diagnoses, such as autism, psychotic disorders, mental retardation, and conduct, mood and attention deficit disorders. Our programs are designed for high-need children, adolescents, and young adults, aged 6 to 22. We have the ability, unlike public schools, to work with these young people on a focused one-to-one level with trained staff and specially designed facilities. Our goal is to help them become more self-reliant. This goal is accomplished through a working partnership with the child, the family, and the community. We have two school campuses, one in San Jose and one in Palo Alto.

Our recent achievements include increasing student enrollment last year by 39%, expanding our services further into the Campbell school district with the addition of a third classroom, renovating our administrative offices, and initiating a new early childhood program that provides parent and teacher training for Head Start preschools in dealing with disabled children, aged 3 to 5.

Students access our services through county mental health or school district referrals. See our FAQs for how to get referred to Achievekids.
